El Guarda is a beautiful 500 year old Cortijo in a lovely rural setting with far-reaching views, conveniently located close to the whitewashed villages of Alcala del Valle, Setenil and Olvera.
The history of the place dates back many centuries during which it had several functions, amongst which being the guard house to the nearby estate of the bishop of Seville.
Between 2008 and 2011 the farm was renovated and modernized where needed.
Set in 4 acres of grounds with magnificent unspoilt views, this welcoming home in an authentic country setting, offers guests the privilege of space, the luxury of privacy and the pleasure of great personal service. Using reclaimed materials, preserved antique features, combined with modern pieces this retreat is a beautiful example of a countryside finca which exudes true warmth and comfort, surrounded by the peace and beauty of nature.
The five double en-suite guestrooms were all part of the original cortijo and thus differ substantially in terms of size and atmosphere. In the same time they all share the same tasteful unique decoration and quality. Four of them have their own private terrace, a few have a log burner etcetera. A relaxing slumber is certain in Emperor or King sized beds with mattresses selected for comfort all dressed in fine Egyptian cotton. The bathrooms are pure rustic luxury and indicative of the owners’ commitment to working with the best local craftspeople. The shower-rooms are plastered in an Arabic style. High pressure rain showers provide an energizing boost, gorgeous towels, comfy bathrobes and grooming products make bathing the pleasure it should be.
Through a traditional double door guests enter the 70sqm kitchen lounge with exposed beams at the 4 meter high ceiling. A room for all seasons - welcoming fireside sofa and chairs are the place to snuggle up to in winter, whilst for the summer, the doors open to reveal the tranquil terrace. In this kitchen we have an honesty bar where one can take a drink when you feel to do so. Another cozy lounge with a log burner and a library wall gives the opportunity for guests to sit down in the coolness of the house when they want to move out of the nice Andalucían sun for a moment.
